Iligan City - The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) as payment conduit and partner of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), helped in the distribution of conditional cash grants to 999 families of the most affected areas (MAA) of Marawi siege recently.
The 3-day payout team, headed by PHLPost Marawi’s Postmaster and Account Officer, Faisal P. Abbas, distributes cash grant amounting to Php8,000 per family at Brgy. Maria Cristina Gym in Iligan City.
ICRC’s chosen beneficiaries of the cash grants are those home-based and evacuation center-based internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Lumbatan, Lumbayanague, Poona Bayabao, Butig and Masiu in Lanao del Sur.
Per ICRC, families should use Php6,000 to regain their livelihood and the remaining Php2,000 will be for other expenses.
A post-distribution monitoring will be conducted by ICRC after 2-3 weeks to the beneficiaries.
In May 2017, hostilities broke out in Marawi. Islamic State groups led by the Maute brothers, laid siege to the Lanao del Sur capital that lasted for five months.
