PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases Salud S. Tesoro commemorative stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) releases stamps to commemorate the Birth Centenary of Salud S. Tesoro (1915-2015), the person who founded TESORO’S in 1945, the store who became famous serving both Filipinos and tourists alike who appreciate authentic quality Philippine handicrafts.

On October 7, 1945, Salud Tesoro of Baliuag, Bulacan opened the first Tesoro’s store in Escolta, Manila. Founded after the liberation of Manila, the first store catered mostly to American soldiers.

Known as the one-stop shop of Philippine treasures, Tesoro’s boost Filipino ingenuity as it’s finest. With 12 branches across the country, the specialty shop is currently one of the largest Philippine handicraft retail chains.

“The Philippine Postal Corporation commemorates the birth centenary of Salud Tesoro and her passion to showcase the best of Philippine artifacts in the country and to the world”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.

Meanwhile, PHLPost printed 102,400 pieces of the commemorative Salud S. Tesoro Birth Centenary stamps, and was printed by Amstar Inc. using imported unwatermarked paper sold at Php10.00 each. The stamp features the portrait of Salud S. Tesoro, considered as the mother of Philippine handicrafts in the country.

The stamp measures 35mm x 50mm and was laid out by in-house artist, Victorino Serevo. The stamps and souvenir sheet shall be available starting February 06, 2015 at all PHLPost post shops and online via Pinoy eMall. For inquiries, please call 5270132.
