VFP 50th Anniversary Commemorative StampsJune 9, 2010
The Philippine Postal Corporation is coming up with the 50th Anniversary of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) stamps which will be issued on June 18, 2010. It is classified as a “Commemorative” kind of issue with a denomination of P 7.00 and quantity of 106,000 pieces. Philpost will issue a se-tenant pair of stamps depicting how the Filipino war heroes, otherwise known as veterans, who fought in World War II and in Korean War as well, and which also shows the logo of the VFP. The VFP was created by virtue of Republic Act no. 2640, entitled, "An Act to Create a Public Corporation to be known as the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, defining its powers, and for other purposes." This law was approved by President Carlos P. Garcia on June 18, 1960 and was later amended by Batas Pambansa Blg. 35. It is the umbrella organization of veterans of the Philippine National Guard, World War II and the Korean War, their widows, and sons and daughters and is involved in looking after their welfare. Emmanuel V. De Ocampo is currently the VFP President. Past VFP presidents include Jesus Marcos-Roces, Capt. Jose Razon, Gen. Alfonso Arellano, Gen. Dionisio S. Ojeda, Col. Simeon C. Medalla and Gen. Romeo Espino. The following is the official VFP Hymn entitled ”Pagmamahal sa Bayan” which was composed by Francisco T. San Miguel: “Pagmamahal sa bayan Amin nang napatunayan Kami ay nakipaglaban Dahil sa kalayaan Panata ng v.f.p. Mahalin ang inang bayan Maglingkod sa bayan Ng walang alinlangan Pagmamahal sa bayan Amin muling pinatunayan Kami ay nakipaglaban Para sa katatagan Panata ng v.f.p.
